Harness the power of American Diesel! Move passengers out from the heart of Los Angeles with Metrolink's F125 locomotive and a consist of Rotem Commuter Cars.

The Antelope Valley Line runs out of Los Angeles Union Station, the largest railroad passenger terminal in the Western United States. After powering through urban LA, the line heads north to Lancaster, California. Along the way players will recognise locations synonymous with Hollywood movies such as the LA River and a brand new station at Vista Canyon.

Adventure up into the Alps courtesy of the world-renowned RhB services that weave and wind their way through Switzerland and over the border into Italy. First opened in 1908, this historic single-track metre-gauge railway line winds its way up into the mountains along gradients as steep as 7%, some of the steepest gradients for an adhesion railway in the world!

First introduced in 2009, this dual voltage EMU is able to run off the 1000 V DC power of the Bernina Line in addition to the 11 kV, 16.7 Hz power seen on the rest of the Rhaetian Railway’s core network. The Allegra even holds the speed record for metre-gauge railways, clocking 139 km/h (86 mph) during a test run on another railway in 2009.

The Loco

The route extends out from Tirano, Italy, which sits at 429m above sea level and heads up to the highest point of the line at Ospizio Bernina, Switzerland, at a height of 2,253m. Along the way, the route twists and winds up the gradients, first looping back on itself via the Brusio Spiral Viaduct, just south of Brusio, before passing by the Lago di Poschiavo and traversing a number of tight turns prior to the summit. Beyond the impressive natural landscape, trains head through towns with some street running and custom road traffic features in-game that stops for each passing train.

The Route

Services on this stretch of the Bernina Line consist primarily of Tirano – St. Moritz services that stop at Ospizio Bernina before running out of the map. There are 49 services in total, with six half-way services from either Tirano or Ospizio Bernina to Poschiavo, where shunting moves can be operated in the morning. Three BEX (Bernina Express) services form part of the timetable, consisting of a run up and down with a shunting manoeuvre at Tirano.

As well as taking passengers across the route to view the showstopping sights from the Bernina Express, scenarios focus on picking up additional stock, delivering freight and filling in for a delayed Santa Claus!

The 1980s beckon and bumpy rides abound! Experience the infamous Class 142 Pacer, and classic loco-hauled expresses, across multiple lines and popular destinations in the North of England. Partner Programme Developer Just Trains make their show-stopping debut into Train Sim World with Blackpool Branches: Preston - Blackpool & Ormskirk!

Much derided by many an enthusiast and commuters due to their loud engines and bumpy ride, these cheap, utilitarian ‘buses on rails’ lasted many decades in service, prompting headlines of “the train that never dies” and “Britain’s hated Pacer – the train that just won’t go away”. Their ‘temporary’ services lasted from 1984 right through until 2021 and saw them take to the rails across Britain – from Carlisle and Dumfries in the north, to Devon and Cornwall in the south as well as Wales and of course the northwest of England, including Blackpool.

Blackpool will be a fondly remembered holiday destination for many, conjuring up memories of their visits to the popular seaside town from the past. Look out for the Pleasure Beach theme park, with an animated rollercoaster running alongside the railway for players and passengers to admire. Elsewhere, the busy interchange station at Preston provides the mid-point for trains heading from Blackpool through to Ormskirk, and Ormskirk Station, at the route’s southern extremity, is overlooked by the town’s church in a rural pocket of West Lancashire which includes Croston, Rufford and Burscough Junction.

With passenger, freight and shunting services available from the route’s three main traction providers, there’s plenty of services to operate across the route’s branches. The 24-hour cycle, based on full, real world working, seasonal timetables has over 250 drivable services ranging from local, express and freight workings to summer extras and shunting operations plus numerous AI workings to give a very authentic feel.

Play five Scenarios, two with the Class 142 Pacer, two with the Class 47/4 and one shunting Scenario with the Class 08. Pacers will need rescuing; shuttles will need shuffling and passengers from the south will have an illuminated evening.

Sprawling rails, stations galore and services in all directions – welcome to the Frankfurt S-Bahn! From the subterranean platforms of Frankfurt Hbf, depart westbound along 3 distinct lines; the S1, S8 and S9, and keep the city moving with true 24/7 service.

The hard-working DB BR 430 EMU operates the bulk of traffic on the S1, S8 and S9 lines. This 4-car, has a design reminiscent of the DB BR 422, although with more modern fittings and tweaks befitting of a busy network such as Frankfurt. The 430s replaced the much-lamented DB BR 420 and expanded the size of the fleet to offer a total of 9 trains an hour in each direction, spread across all 3 lines, with up to 12-car formations. 

The S-Bahn Rhein-Main came about in the late 1970s, when various routes out of Frankfurt were brought together as a single network. Also built and added onto the network was a connection to Frankfurt Airport, both the S-Bahn itself in 1980, and long-distance trains in 1999. Both feature in the in-game route. Over time, many additions and modifications have been made to the network to match increasing demand. In 2018, multiple lines introduced nightly operations, offering 24/7 service in and out of bustling Frankfurt.

S1 services take a more direct westerly route out of Frankfurt, calling at suburban locations in the outskirts of the city and running north of the Main river, the longest tributary of the Rhine, all the way to Wiesbaden. S8 and S9 services share an alternative path which initially heads south to serve Frankfurt Airport’s Regional station, before stopping at all stations on the Mainbahn, south of the Main.

Sometimes life on the rails needs to break the routine! Experience five unique scenarios, including aiding broken-down trains and rushing VIPs to their destinations.

The BR 103 is a legend of the German railway network, being both the first high speed locomotive developed in Germany and one of the most powerful electric locomotives in the world! The late 1990s marked a time when these magnificent machines were starting to assume lesser duties and give way to more contemporary locomotives.

New York - Long Beach, Hempstead & Hicksville

Train Sim World Compatible: Long Island Rail Road Commuter:

LIRR Commuter offers a new way to experience America’s busiest commuter railroad. Shifting on average a quarter of a million passengers a day, with many services per hour, it is also the USA’s oldest commuter railroad, having been in continuous operation since 1834.

M7 units were introduced to the Long Beach Branch in October 2002 and have since seen operation along other routes in the LIRR network. The modern M9 entered service in 2019 primarily to replace the M3 units from the 1980s. The trains are characterised inside by wider seats and larger PIS displays, marking an improvement for passenger comfort over their predecessors. Improved acceleration, stopping power and a capability to reach 100 mph mean a more responsive journey for the engineer.

The Locos

As well as the main line From New York Penn as far as Hicksville, LIRR commuter covers the Atlantic Branch, Montauk Branch, Long Beach Branch and Hempstead Branch. The add-on boasts the most stations on a single route in Train Sim World, with 39 potential stops on your journey.

The schedule is based on real world reference material from around 2021 and features regular traffic on all lines. There are a total of 306 playable services for the M9 and 287 playable services for the M7. During rush hour, there are times when both the east and west lines to Hicksville are used for traffic in the same direction resulting in trains overtaking each other! During quieter times of day, there are deadheading services running empty back to the depot, yard services and units coupling together.

As part of the scenario offering for the route, you will be able to play the role of the conductor in the "Double Duty" scenario,  taking on the responsibility of checking passenger tickets as well as interacting with the AI engineer to fulfill other important duties.

Suffragette Line: Gospel Oak - Barking Riverside

150 years in the making; the Gospel Oak to Barking Line was happenstance-constructed through the means of multiple companies building adjacent lines. As links, junctions and various termini were built and changed, this meandering route through no less than 7 of North & East London’s boroughs took shape as a vital strategic railway.

One of the latest trains in TfL’s fleet comes to Train Sim World in the form of the Class 710 Aventra. Introduced in 2019, these sleek and modern electric multiple units replaced older stock and have variants running under other operators throughout Greater London, including the Class 345 units on the Elizabeth Line.

The in-game route has scenery that represents the built-up area around this part of north London, including dense collections of residential buildings and lighting that recreates the suburban atmosphere after the sun has gone down. A dedicated team of route builders have put a lot of effort into unique scenery assets on the route, including the two distinctive stations at the large Barking interchange and the brand-new Barking Riverside station in anticipation of the riverside development that is very much under way.

Up to four trains per hour (tph) run along this line between Gospel Oak and Barking Riverside resulting in 154 playable services for the Class 710 in and amongst a total of over 1,000 services when factoring in AI and layers from other pieces of content. Timekeeping is essential throughout each service run, as well as accurate stopping points with trains fitting snug into the length of some platforms. Freight and other services are available via layers.

Scenarios are centred around various special events throughout the year, with players having to negotiate specific operations for Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night, as well as busy football fixtures and weather-related disruption.

Set in 2019, the route will transport you to the east coast of the USA and the culturally rich city of Boston, MA! Transport commuters and baseball fans alike during some of the busiest periods on the line.

This sleek, modern HSP46 Diesel locomotive which is unique to the MBTA fleet. Having first entered service in 2014, the HSP46 has been increasingly used on services out of South Station, replacing the older F40PH. Its large windows and curved nose not only make for a more aerodynamic journey, but an easier one for engineers, with a spacious cab layout which sets it apart from other American locos!

This northeast, New England city of Boston plays host to plenty of commuter and long-distance railroad traffic from two large stations, this route  features services running out of Boston South. Baseball fans alight at Lansdowne Station to head to Fenway Park, the USA’s oldest baseball stadium, to see the Red Sox do their thing as they have done there since 1912.

Loco-hauled services head out of Boston toward Worcester, and cab cars lead the way for the return journey back to Boston. Timetables are based on real-world services from the not-so-distant past of 2019.

Train Sim World Compatible: Peak Forest Railway:

The quaint and waning years of 1960s steam is brought back to life in Peak Forest Railway! Step back in time and discover the long-lost railway, re-tread the rails through historical English countryside in the hard-working Fowler 4F.

Built between 1924 and 1941, these 0-6-0 tender locos were coming to the end of their time by the sixties, with all examples withdrawn by 1966. Railfans at the time used the nickname ‘Duck Sixes’ when spotting these locomotives on the rail network, due to their wheel arrangement.

Peak Forest offers a scenic, tranquil opportunity to enjoy 1960s Derbyshire around the end of the Steam era, using banking operations to negotiate inclines with extremely heavy locomotives.

The role of the steam trains at the time was to carry passengers across the full line from Ambergate - Chinley, as well as hauling heavy limestone from the local quarry, assisted by banking locomotives which would help push the load up steep inclines.

With origins from as early as 1828, the Rosenheim – Salzburg railway has ferried passengers and freight through Bavaria and across into Austria for many decades. Fast forward to 2013, when this route Add-on is set, and services continue in the DB BR 111.

A '70s classic comes to Train Sim World for the first time in the form of the mighty DB BR 111 in DB red livery. These versatile locomotives, built between 1974 and 1984, have seen action all across Germany in the past. Despite their age, most of the fleet remains in service today. The 111 utilises a tap changer control system with both manual and semi-automatic input, bringing a different style of operation to that seen on contemporary locomotives.

With a history spanning over 160 years, the Rosenheim - Salzburg railway has long been a line of vital importance between Germany and Austria. Along the route, the scenic countryside delights drivers and passengers alike with sights of the Bavaria region, including the area around the Chiemsee lake. Thirteen stations over 89km of track include towns and villages in the Bavarian hills, such as Übersee, Bernau am Chiemsee and Teisendorf.

Bahnstrecke Salzburg – Rosenheim can be experienced in a number of ways with three forms of traction included in the route Add-on. Eastbound passenger services from Rosenheim to Salzburg will be headed by the DB BR 111, with westbound services operated via the Dosto cab car. Freight duty is handled by the DB BR 185.2 with Habbiins and Sggmrss wagons.

Life on the route can be difficult. Extreme weather across in the Bavarian hills can cause delays, stranded trains and faults across the line. Go to the rescue in five unique scenarios where you will need to help out and keep things up and running.

Train Sim World Compatible: Semmeringbahn:

Explore the World’s first true mountain railway in Train Sim World 4! Take control of national operator ÖBB’s modern electric traction through the Semmering Pass along a railway first conceived in 1842.

Hauling both passenger and freight trains, the ‘Taurus’ family of electric locomotives can be seen throughout Germany, Austria and Hungary as well as Poland and Italy. Though similar to its German variant, the ÖBB 1116 ‘Taurus’ is in fact very different operationally, which is highlighted by distinctive differences in the spacious cab. The sleek exterior body is largely the same, aside from the branding of Austria’s national operator ÖBB, and railfans will recognise its ‘musical’ traction converters that rise through the ‘Do-Re-Me' scale in a tone that resembles an alt-saxophone.

Located in the east of Austria, roughly halfway between the city of Graz and the capital of Vienna, the Semmeringbahn route is considered the world’s first mountain railway, with origins dating back to 1842 as part of the much longer Südbahn. From Mürzzuschlag, the line cuts through the area known as the Semmering Pass before passing the namesake town of Semmering through the peaks to Gloggnitz. From there, the route straightens and becomes a high-speed 27km dash to the end point at Wiener Neustadt Hbf, the busiest station in Lower Austria. Along the line lie a series of tunnels, viaducts and bridges all surrounded by dense woodland and the backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

A varied timetable utilises the ÖBB 1116 for different services including NJ, RJ, IC, EC and D trains, with the ÖBB 4024 taking up the CJX9 and R91 trains in and out of Wiener Neustadt. AI traffic using both trains will move in and out of the map at both ends, with a number of depot moves also available. Freight trains also play a key part, with additional rolling stock supplementing the Habbiins, Sggmrss and Shimmns wagons that come included with this Add-on.

Overcome challenges on the rural rails caused by snow, fire and even cows in order to keep passengers moving and get freight to its destination!

Owners of the Linke Rheinstrecke route can operate three seasonal rail tours. Players that own Bahnstrecke Salzburg – Rosenheim are also able to operate four EC services that use the ÖBB 1116 electric locomotive and coaches on that route.

Introducing Austria! The S-Bahn Vorarlberg Line winds through the Alps to the Austria-Germany border courtesy of national operator ÖBB, also new to Train Sim World.

Big mountains and stunning scenery are the order of the day, as are a plethora of station stops on both the main line and the branch line that heads in the direction of the border with Switzerland. Making the journey is ÖBB's 4024 Talent (or the Talbot Leichter Nahverkehrs-Triebwagen) EMU.
